In 2015, Danske Bank participated in IT Case Competition by being the case company. As the case company, Danske Bank seeked input on how to utilize the full functionality of the blockchain technology that functions as the foundation for the Bitcoin currency. The competitors of IT Case Competition helped Danske Bank put some new ideas to the table, and tried to foresee a future where the full potential of the blockchain was utilized in both banking, but as well in governments, registration etc.
Excerpt from the case:
“Henrik Agerson, the Danske Bank’s Group Chief Executive Officer was standing in his office in Copenhagen.
Looking out of the large window he wondered whether the people swimming at Islands Brygge sometimes gazed up at him and observed his movements the same way he did with them in this very moment. It was one of the rare instances, where neither meeting nor anything urgent was on the schedule.
He did not know whether he should be enjoying this small break or curse it for allowing him to think about the upcoming meeting.
…
Thinking about cryptocurrencies, what if they included such a currency in their business or even created their own? What would that do?”
